GA3: Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Committee (Level 1)
The Social Humanitarian and Cultural Committee(SOCHUM) is one of the main pillars in ensuring the promotion and preservation of human rights. Its agenda focuses on a variety of social and humanitarian issues, which include indigenous issues, protection of children, promotion of essential freedoms, the advancement of human rights. SOCHUM aims to address difficulties related to access to education, self-determination, drugs control, juvenile crime and people with disabilities, which fall under the umbrella of social development. Its main concern revolves around human dignity and the individual’s integration in society. SOCHUM regularly joins effort with other organs of the UN, such as the WHO, UNICEF and UNHCR to ensure that its resolutions are being effectively implemented.
